And this year is a special one, 2026 marks America's 250th birthday, so the Triangle is celebrating Independence Day with even more to see and do. From a brand-new downtown blowout to charming small-town fun, here's your guide to the best family-friendly July 4th events and fireworks shows happening all around the Triangle. A quick heads-up before you make plans: because the Fourth lands on a Saturday this year, several towns are holding their shows a day or two early, so there's a good chance you can catch more than one.

New This Year: Raleigh's America 250 Celebration at Dix Park
When: Saturday, July 4 | Gates open at 6 p.m., fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Where: Dorothea Dix Park (the Big Field), Raleigh
Cost: Free — no ticket or registration needed
Raleigh's official Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration returns to Dix Park this year to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Gates open at 6 p.m. with food trucks, a DJ and live music, lawn games and inflatables, a craft station, and a shaded picnic area — all leading up to the fireworks at 9:30 p.m. The event wraps at 10 p.m.
One important note this year: there is no public parking at Dix Park, and the Big Field will be fenced with security screening at the gates, so plan to arrive early. A few easy ways in:
Park & Ride (recommended): Park in a downtown Raleigh deck for a $10 flat event rate and ride a free shuttle from Moore Square, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Free parking: Limited first-come, first-served parking at NC State's Centennial Campus (Partners Way Deck and Oval West Deck), then a short walk to the Big Field.

A few quick rules: small soft-sided coolers with snacks and sealed non-alcoholic drinks are welcome, but please leave alcohol, personal fireworks and sparklers, drones, and pets at home. More America 250 Fun in Downtown Raleigh
If you'd like to make a full day of it, two more free, family-friendly events are happening downtown on the Fourth:
First in Freedom Parade — Saturday, July 4, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., downtown Raleigh. A patriotic parade honoring the nation's founding and North Carolina's role in it.
North Carolina Freedom Fest — Saturday, July 4, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the State Capitol. Live music, food trucks, history exhibits, and family activities.
And the celebration continues into the weekend with America's Cookout on Sunday, July 5, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Abbott's Creek Community Center — games, food, and community connection.
Fireworks & Family Fun Around the Triangle
Brier Creek Star-Spangled Block Party
When: Saturday, July 4 | Festivities begin at 8 p.m., fireworks after dark
Where: Brier Creek Commons, 8181 Brier Creek Pkwy, Raleigh

Cary's July 4th Celebration at Koka Booth
When: Saturday, July 4 | Gates open at 3:30 p.m., fireworks at 9:25 p.m. Where: Koka Booth Amphitheatre — 8003 Regency Pkwy, Cary
Picnic by the lake while enjoying live patriotic music from the North Carolina Symphony and the Cary Town Band, with special America 250 programming this year, capped off with fireworks. Durham's July 4th Celebration at the Bulls
When: Saturday, July 4 | Game at 6:45 p.m., fireworks after
Where: Durham Bulls Athletic Park — 409 Blackwell St, Durham
The City of Durham and the Durham Bulls team up for one of the Triangle's best fireworks shows, following the Bulls' game against the Gwinnett Stripers.
One note for 2026: game tickets are already sold out, but you don't need one to enjoy the show. Free outside viewing areas include the grassy area behind Diamond View 3, the lawn near Burt's Bees, Tobacco Road Sports Café, and Ponysaurus Brewing, and the ballpark opens to general admission at the end of the 7th inning as space allows. Wake Forest Fireworks Spectacular
When: Friday, July 3 | Gates open at 5:30 p.m., fireworks around 9:30 p.m.
Where: Heritage High School, 1150 Forestville Rd, Wake Forest
A headliner band, food trucks, and a crowd-pleasing fireworks show that draws more than 15,000 each year — all the fun, one day early. New this year is a sensory-friendly watch party at the softball field for anyone who's more comfortable away from the loudest sound and biggest crowds. Clayton Independence Day Fireworks
When: Friday, July 3 | Fireworks after dark (time to be announced)
Where: Clayton Middle School, Clayton
A change for 2026: with the new Clayton High School under construction, the town's Independence Day fireworks move to Friday, July 3 and launch from Clayton Middle School. Wendell Independence Day Celebration
When: Thursday, July 2 | Park opens at 6:30 p.m., live music at 7 p.m., fireworks around 9 p.m.
Where: Wendell Community Park, 601 W Third Street, Wendell

Morrisville Red, White & BOOM!
When: Thursday, July 2 | 6 to 9:30 p.m., fireworks at 9 p.m.
Where: Cedar Fork District Park,228 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville

Heads up if Apex is your tradition: the beloved Olde Fashioned Fourth is on pause for 2026 because of the downtown Salem Streetscape construction.
